(SBU) On October 26, POLOFF delivered reftel demarche (regarding
U.S. priorities for the UNGA's upcoming Third Committee session) to
Leila Villatoro, the MFA's Deputy Director for Multilateral Policy
(United Nations). Villatoro said that the Government of Guatemala
would likely:
* continue to oppose no-action motions on the grounds they
stifle debate;
* support annual country-specific resolutions critical of
Iran, Burma, and the DPRK, depending on the final text in each;
* abstain from voting on a resolution on defamation of
religions, as it has done in the past;
* support the U.S. biennial resolution on free elections.
