Embassy Grenada's weekly report (GWAR) provides a little detail about events of interest that do not merit longer reporting at this time. ¶2. Begin GWAR text: a. (U)UNESCO Director General Visits Grenada UNESCO Director General Koichiro Matsuura, during a first ever visit by a UNESCO DG, pledged support for Grenada's efforts to preserve heritage sites. The DG discussed a wide range of issues with Prime Minister Tillman Thomas who expressed appreciation on behalf of the government and people of Grenada for UNESCO's assistance following Hurricane Ivan as well as its support on education and health. b. (U) Prime Minister Thomas to visit China On January 20, the Chinese Ambassador thanked the Prime Minister and people of Grenada for their recognition of the `One China' policy. Six more Grenadians recently received scholarships to study in China bringing the number of students in China to 50. Prime Minister Tillman will visit China this year. c. (U) Labor Leader Calls for Children to Plant Nutmeg Far left Senator Chester Humphrey called on the government to put the nation's children to work planting nutmeg trees during the summer holidays, `like they do in Israel and Cuba'. Humphrey said that since the children now get `free' school books they should work for it. A member of the Nutmeg Association said that he agrees that children could be involved in the replanting of nutmeg trees; he envisions a competition with awards based on the number of trees planted.
