The President Jagdeo Bharrat, sent the following congratulatory message to President Obama, a copy of which was sent to post and dated January 21. The original letter was sent to the White House. Text begins: Mr. President, On behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Guyana, and on my own behalf, I am pleased to extend heartfelt congratulations to you on the occasion of your historic inauguration as the 44th president of the United States of America. During your term of office as President of the United States of America, please be assured that my Government is committed to working with you to build on the programme of cooperation between our two countries; as well as collaboration at the regional and hemispheric levels with a view to tackling critical issues affecting our region. I look forward to the opportunity of engaging in dialogue with you at the upcoming Summit of the Americas in Trinidad and Tobago in April of this year. I firmly believe that the Summit will present an important forum at which the leaders of our hemisphere could seek to find workable solutions to pertinent issues such as security, narco-trafficking, energy security and climate change. These are issues among others, that continue to have a profound effect on both our countries. Please accept, Mr. President, my best wishes for a successful term of office and for your continued good health and well being. Bharrat Jagdeo President of the Republic of Guyana HE MR.
