1. (SBU) PolOff met with the Director of the Department of
Multilateral Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and
International Cooperation Mmamosadinyana Punkie Josephine
Molefe May 22. PolOff discussed the UN Security Council 1267
Sanctions Committee approval to add Pakistan-based Chinese
citizen Abdul Haq, aka Maimaitimung Maimaiti to its
consolidated list of entities associated with al-Qaeda, Usama
bin Ladin, or the Taliban. Further, PolOff informed the
Director that the United States designated this individual
domestically on April 20, and urged the GOB to take action in
accordance with its obligations under relevant UN Security
Council Resolutions.
2. (SBU) The Director said that she will ensure that all
interested parties are informed and that Botswana will
respect the designation of this individual as Botswana
considers its obligations under international agreements very
important.
