1. (C) On September 15 PolEcon Chief delivered reftel demarche
to Dodhudo Pirov, Director of Asian and African Affairs at the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Pirov said the Government of
Tajikistan well understood that the electoral process in
Afghanistan was not finished, and that there could be a second
round of voting. Tajikistan would respect this process, and not
take any actions to prejudge the results of the process, Pirov
said.
2. (C) Ambassador will also convey this demarche when he makes
his initial call on the Foreign Minister, scheduled for
September 18, and will likewise raise it with President Rahmon
when he presents his credentials (date TBD). Post will report
any further substantive reaction septel.
