(C) On September 8 Ministry of Foreign Affairs Director for North America and Europe Khusrav Nosiri gave PolEcon Chief a diplomatic note, dated September 8, requesting a meeting between President Rahmon and Secretary Clinton on the margins of UNGA between September 22 and 25. Nosiri said Rahmon would remain in the United States only during these dates. Embassy supports this meeting request, in light of Tajikistan's growing significance to our efforts in Afghanistan, and the importance of personal contact in the Central Asian cultural and political context. ¶2.
