1. This is an action request. See para three.
2. The following candidate has been selected for participation in
the Annual Pacific Command Special Operations Conference 09(PASOC
09) in Honolulu, Hi, USA, which will begin on March 29, 2009. Post
vetting was completed on January 22, 2009. Post requests that
vetting be completed by February 10, 2009 to provide sufficient time
for processing. Post requests the department conduct Leahy vetting
for the following candidates:
1. Name: Md Wahidul Islam Talukder
Rank: Brigadier General
Unit: 14 Independent Engineers Brigade
Unit Location: Army HQ, Dhaka Cantt
Personal Number: BA 2339
Date of Birth: 05 October 1963
Place of Birth: Dhaka, Bangladesh
3. Post requests that the Department of State authorize post to make
the following statement to the relevant DOD units: "Embassy verifies
that the Department of State possesses no credible information of
gross violations of human rights by the above named individual or
unit."
4. Post Human Rights Officer is David Arulanantham, unclass
e-mail:arulananthamdp@state.gov.
5. COMMENT: Embassy has no information to indicate these
individuals or any units they have served in have been involved in
gross violations of human rights.
