1. This is an action request. See para three.
2. The following delegates have been selected for participation in
the Pacific Air Chief's Conference to be held in Honolulu, Hawaii
and Washington DC; which will begin on or about October 25-30, 2009.
Post vetting was completed on June 16 2009. Post requests that
vetting be completed by July 15 2009 to provide sufficient time for
processing. Post requests the department conduct Leahy vetting for
the following candidates:
1. Name: Shah Mohammad Ziaur Rahman
Rank: Air Marshal
Unit: Chief of Air Staff
Unit Location: Dhaka, Bangladesh
Personal Number: BD-7041
Date of Birth: 13 Jun 1955
Place of Birth: Khulna, Bangladesh
2. Post requests that the Department of State authorize post to make
the following statement to the relevant DOD units: "Embassy verifies
that the Department of State possesses no credible information of
gross violations of human rights by the above named individual or
unit."
3. Post Human Rights Officer is David Arulanantham, unclass
e-mail:arulananthamdp@state.gov.
4. COMMENT: Embassy has no information to indicate these
individuals or any units they have served in have been involved in
gross violations of human rights.
