1. (SBU) MFA Director of Multilateral Cooperation Begum Taj
told POLOFF April 17 that Tanzania welcomed and would support
the US candidacy for the UNHRC. She was pleased to learn
that there would likely be a "clean slate" for the election.
Taj commented on the importance of working from within an
institution such as the HRC. Note: Tanzania considered but
then decided against running for an HRC seat in 2009, but
will remain interested for future years.
