UNCLAS COPENHAGEN 000568 SENSITIVE SIPDIS DEPT FOR SCA/P, EUR/NB E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: EAGR EAID ECON ETRD PGOV PHUM PREF PREL PK SUBJECT: DENMARK: ASSISTANCE TO WORLD FOOD PROGRAM (WFP) IN PAKISTAN REF: STATE 126694 (U) SENSITIVE BUT UNCLASSIFIED; HANDLE ACCORDINGLY. NOT FOR INTERNET DISTRIBUTION. (SBU) On December 14, poloff conveyed talking points contained in reftel to Jesper Segelcke Thomsen, Deputy Head, Stabilization Department - Pakistan, MFA. Thomsen said that even though the UN has yet to issue its 2010 Humanitarian Appeal, the MFA is keenly aware of pressing WFP needs in Pakistan's frontier territories and is already discussing the actual amount it will donate. Thomsen added that Denmark recognizes the political dimension of this issue, specifically the need to diminish the desperation of internally-displaced populations in that country's frontier regions, which could make them susceptible to radicalization. The MFA will convey to us its donation amount as soon as it is determined. FULTON
