(SBU) Summary: AmEmbassy Colombo convened an Emergency Action Committee (EAC) meeting on October 28, 2009. The sole agenda item was a proposal to amend post's current Travel Warning, in light of the prevailing security environment in Sri Lanka. The EAC concurred with the proposed revisions and the draft will be passed to the Ambassador. Following the Ambassador's approval, post will send the revised draft to Consular Affairs for Department of State approval. End summary. ¶2. (SBU) On October 28, 2009, AmEmbassy Colombo convened an EAC meeting. Present for the meeting were the Deputy Chief of Mission, Regional Security Officer, Regional Affairs Officer, Political Officer, Economic Officer, Management Officer, Consular Officer, Public Affairs Officer, USAID Director, Defense Attache', Office of Defense Cooperation Chief, International Broadcasting Bureau Station Chief, Community Liaison Officer, Information Management Officer, and the Department of Homeland Security representative. The sole agenda item was a proposal to revise post's Travel Warning (TW) of June 26, 2009, in light of the improving security environment in Sri Lanka. ¶3. (SBU) CONS presented a draft TW for the EAC's consideration. The EAC concurred that CONS's proposed draft accurately reflected the improving security environment in Sri Lanka, yet provided the general American public with necessary information upon which to base decisions for travel to Sri Lanka. The DCM noted that the Ambassador would receive the draft for final approval, after which post will transmit the revised TW to Consular Affairs for Department of State approval. ¶4.
