1. This is an action request. Please see para 4 below.
2. PolOff met with Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
United Nations and Commonwealth Section Director Lee Kerr on
June 3 to request Australian support of UN International
Civil Service Commission U.S. candidate Lucretia Myers, per
reftel instruction. Director Kerr welcomed the information
and gave her preliminary view that Ms. Myers seemed
well-qualified, and she saw no reason why Australia would not
support her candidacy.
3. Kerr stated that she would give further information on
Australia's support as her office learned more. Director
Kerr asked for clarification of the election process,
including the formal or informal nature of the regional
groupings and the date and manner of the election and/or
nomination.
4. ACTION REQUESTED: Embassy would appreciate further
information on the election process and the regional
groupings in order to be responsive to Australia's request.
