1. (U) April 30, Consular Officer delivered the U.S. Customs
and Border Protection announcement contained in reftel to
Richard J. Jameson, Executive Officer, Passport Systems and
Technology Section (PST),Passport Business Improvement and
Technology Branch (PSB),Australian Passport Office,
Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
2. (U) Mr. Jameson told consular officer that all Australian
travel documents are machine-readable back to 1998; however,
emergency passports, Documents of Identity, and Certificates
of Identity are not e-chipped. All other Australian travel
documents are e-chipped.
