1. (S/NF) Further to Ref B, April 2, Hugh Jeffry, Director
of Iran Section, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
told POLOFF that, in response to Ref A request, the GOA had
delivered a message to the Iranian ambassador, Mahmoud
Movahhedi, in Canberra requesting the freeing of the American
citizen, Ms Roxana Saberi, for humanitarian reasons.
2. (S/NF) Ambassador Movahhedi accepted the message and
promised to return a formal response in the coming days. He
also mentioned that he had been informed by Tehran that Ms
Saberi was to be visited in prison by her parents on
April 2. The Iranian response will be provided septel.
