1. (C) On March 16, POLOFF delivered US talking points to
Barbara Cooper and Simon Moore, Director and Executive
Officer respectively for the Northern, Central and Eastern
Europe Section at the Australian Department of Foreign
Affairs and Trade (DFAT) informing the Government of
Australia (GOA) of the USG's position on proposed Russian
bases in Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
2. (C) Both Australian diplomats stated that the GOA was in
complete agreement with USG concerns about such bases.
