1. (SBU) On March 10, Poloff delivered reftel talking points,
requesting the Government of Australia to respond generously
to the UN and ICRC IDP funding appeals, to Lisa Rice-Madan
and Rebecca Curtis, Director and Executive Officer
respectively for Pakistan, Bangladesh and the Central Asian
Republics, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and to
Alistair Sherwin, their equivalent at AusAID.
2. (SBU) Sherwin said that the GOA was in complete agreement
with the American position on the necessity of funding the
Humanitarian Response Plan for Pakistan and the ICRC's Budget
Extension. He indicated that AusAID would likely commit the
maximum funds allowable under current budget restraints, but
was not able to provide an estimate of the contribution.
