Classified By: Acting P/E Counselor Jon Martinson, reasons 1.4 (b,d)
(C) In an August 18 meeting to discuss reftel, MFA Arms
Control and Non-proliferation Section Head Mark Horvath told
PolOff that Hungary supports efforts to move the process
forward during the upcoming IAEA General Conference. Horvath
noted the Arab League's intention, via a letter to Sweden,
currently holding the EU Presidency, to once again introduce
a draft resolution specifically citing Israel. Horvath
stated that the EU president is formulating a common EU reply
with member States, one that expresses support for a nuclear
free zone in the Middle East. Horvath commented that Hungary
believes that singling out one country is not the way to
address the issues in the region. He stated his belief that
Hungary "could support a single resolution" as proposed by
the USG.
