1. USEU USAID officer delivered reftel letter from the
Secretary outlining the USG approach to combating global
hunger and promoting food security to the European
Commission's Directorate General (DG) for Development (DEV)
and DG for Agriculture (AGRI). In addition to the letter,
USEU delivered accompanying proposal entitled Partnership for
Food Security. We spoke with Luis Riera, Director for
Development Policies - Thematic Issues in DG DEV and Leonard
Mizzi, Head of Unit for African, Caribbean, and Pacific
regions, UN Food and Agriculture Organization, and Food Aid
in DG AGRI. Neither official offered immediate responses or
comments. We will forward any responses that we receive.
