1. PolOff delivered reftel demarche to Marianna Lipkova, of
the Slovak MFA Human Rights Department, on October 26. Lipkova
expressed enthusiasm for U.S. engagement both on the HRC and the
Third Committee, as our positions are closely aligned on almost
all issues. Lipkova said that Slovakia opposes no-action
motions, though she expects a no-action motion on Iran to
succeed, and lamented that Iran's support appears to be growing.
Lipkova said that in principle Slovakia supports the U.S.
elections resolution, but was unsure if Slovakia would be able
to make any financial commitments if asked. Slovakia strongly
supports the resolutions on Iran, Burma, and DPRK, and will
support U.S. efforts to defer or defeat the OIC resolution on
Defamation of Religion if it is tabled.
2. Lipkova asked for further clarification on the official
U.S. position on the Convention on the Rights of the Child,
which post has solicited via email to DRL and IO.
