PLEASE HANDLE ACCORDINGLY. ¶1. (SBU) This report provides an update on developments in Brazil regarding the swine flu outbreak. NEW REPORTED CASES: ¶2. (U) On Thursday, May 7, the Brazilian Ministry of Health reported that laboratory tests have confirmed four cases of the H1N1 flu in three Brazilian states - Sao Paulo (two cases),Rio de Janeiro (one case),and Minas Gerais (one case). Each of the confirmed cases involves a patient with recent travel to Mexico or the United States. ¶3. (U) In addition to the confirmed cases, the Ministry of Health and the National Agency on Sanitation Vigilance (ANVISA) in Brazil are reporting an additional 15 suspected cases of the virus. Laboratory tests are currently underway for each of the suspect cases and the Ministry of Health says it may have some results as early as Friday, May 8. SOBEL
