PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: ¶1. Post would like to request a Digital Video Conference (DVC) to support WHA/PDA's outreach efforts to support the Summit of the Americas. The DVC will cover topics including the Summit process, energy security, human prosperity, environmental sustainability, and a discussion on expected results from the 2009 Summit. END SUMMARY. ¶B. TIME FRAME AND NUMBER OF PROGRAM DATES: ¶2. Proposed program dates will fall between March 23 and April 10, ¶2009. There will be 3 separate program dates with 3 different speakers. Post requests that this DVC not be programmed for March 23, April 9 or April 10, as these are host national holidays. Post preference would be during the first week of April. ¶C. PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAM: ¶3. WHA/PDA and WHA PA Sections are trying to promote awareness of the benefits of the Summit of the Americas to average citizens, scholars, journalists, and government officials throughout the region. This DVC will allow Posts to gather key audiences to hear and engage speakers with Summit expertise, stemming either from their time in academia or past roles as official Summit coordinators for the Department of State. The proposed speakers for the program are John Maisto, former U.S. Ambassador to the Organization of American States; Peter Hakim, President of the Inter-American Dialogue; and Richard Feinberg, Professor of International Political Economy at the University of California at San Diego. ¶4. The MSP goal to be addressed is Public Diplomacy: Communicating Democracy, Prosperity and Security. The target audiences will benefit by learning more about Summit implementations and what the U.S. academic and NGO communities are saying about the upcoming Summit. ¶D. AUDIENCE: ¶5. The DVC will be offered to foreign academics, NGO representatives, and journalists. ¶E. PROPOSED TOPICS AND NATURE OF EVENTS: ¶6. Human Prosperity ¶F. TYPE OR NAME OF SPECIALIST REQUIRED: ¶7. John Maisto, former U.S. Ambassador to the Organization of American States, or Peter Hakim, President of the Inter-American Dialogue. ¶G. LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS ¶8. No requirements for speakers.
