THE CARTAGENA PROTOCOL ON BIOSAFETY

On February 11, in consultation with FAS, Econoff delivered
copies of reftel diplomatic notes and points to Giannina
Santiago, Advisor to the Vice-Minister of Environment,
Leonidas Tobon, Director of Technological Development at the
Ministry of Agriculture, and Faryde Caller, Advisor for
Multilateral Environmental Issues at the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs. Santiago will attend the Mexico meetings, Tobon is
unsure. The GOC officials but were not able to provide
further details on the GOC delegation or GOC positions at
this time. Santiago told EconCouns February 12 that the
three ministries would be meeting in the next few days to
coordinate positions. (NOTE: All three ministries, including
these interlocutors, have been focused on Colombia-EU free
trade agreement negotiations in Bogota this week. END NOTE).
Post will continue to follow-up and forward additional
information as it becomes available.
