(SBU) On January 19 Econoff delivered copies of reftel
diplomatic note and points to Director of North American
Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Patricia Cortes,
Director of International Trade at the Ministry of Commerce
Maria Eugenia Mesa, Director of Fisheries at the Ministry of
Agriculture Carlos Robbles, Director of Trade at the Ministry
of Agriculture Mario Soto, and Advisor to the Vice-Minister
of Environment at the Ministry of Environment Giannina
Cabarcas. Econoff highlighted the new import regulations as
a way to enhance the conservation of Caribbean spiny lobster
and improve the effectiveness of law enforcement related to
such conservation. The GOC acknowledged receipt of the
points, but had no substantive response at this time.
