FAS Bogota spoke with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the
Codex Chairperson and two additional members of Colombia's
Codex committee in response to reftel regarding the USG
position on mandatory Genetic Modification/Genetic
Engineering (GM/GE) labeling. FAS Bogota also raised
Colombia's participation in the May Codex Committee on Food
Labeling (CCFL) meeting in Canada. The contacts responded
that the Government of Colombia (GOC) had not yet formalized
a position with respect to discontinuing CCFL's work on the
GM labeling, nor had decided if representatives would attend
the May meeting. FAS Bogota will communicate via unclass
email once it receives further information regarding the GOC
position and the delegation makeup.
