1. (SBU) The Embassy received a letter from President Bakiyev to
President Obama on August 12, under cover of a diplomatic note.
Embassy's informal translation of the letter follows.
Begin text:
To His Excellency
The President of the United States of America
Mr. Barak Obama
Washington
Your Excellency,
Let me express sincere gratitude for your constructive position with
regard to bilateral relations between Kyrgyzstan and United States
of America.
I am convinced that through joint efforts we will be able to
withstand global threats and the challenges of modernity, fight
global terrorism, and considerably expand the commercial and
economic ties and contacts between our countries.
In the course of my Bishkek meeting on July 11 with Under Secretary
of State William Burns, we jointly confirmed the intentions of both
countries to advance existing programs aimed at strengthening and
expanding the friendly relations between the Kyrgyz Republic and the
United States of America.
Keeping in mind that cooperation between our countries is one of the
most important components of Kyrgyzstan's foreign policy, we have a
firm intention to continue developing a high level of trust-based
political and diplomatic dialogue with the United States. In this
context, the coming visit to the U.S. of the Kyrgyz Republic's
Minister of Foreign Affairs K. Sarbayev will allow the discussion of
expanding partnership links with the American side, and also
concrete mechanisms for implementing bilateral projects in the near
future.
Please accept, Mr. President, my highest respects, and also my
wishes for peace and prosperity for the American people.
