1. (SBU) Liechtenstein: On February 27, acting POL/E
Counselor followed up on the request for support for the U.S.
UNAT candidate (reftels) with Ambassador Hubert Buechel, COM
at the Embassy of Liechtenstein in Bern. Ambassador Buechel
expressed understanding for the importance of the matter to
the USG, and undertook to obtain a substantive response from
Vaduz. Doris Frick, DCM at the Embassy of Liechtenstein in
Bern, subsequently contacted acting POL/E Counselor to
confirm that Liechtenstein will support U.S. candidate Judge
Painter during the upcoming UNAT election.
2. (SBU) Switzerland: On February 27, acting POL/E Counselor
followed up on the request for support for the U.S. UNAT
candidate (reftels) with Olivier Zehnder, acting Head of the
UN Coordination Office of the Swiss Department of Foreign
Affairs (EDA),again urging support for Judge Painter's
candidacy. Zehnder collegially but steadfastly responded
that he was not able to provide a more committal response
than that previously reported.
