COMMISSION (ICSC): DEMARCHE DELIVERED TO SWITZERLAND AND
LIECHTENSTEIN
REF: STATE 55499
1. (SBU) Poloff delivered the reftel demarche on June 10 to
Philippe Flueck, Deputy Head of Section for UN and Other
International Organization Affairs (and POC for UN/IO
candidacies) at the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign
Affairs (FDFA). Flueck did not comment substantively on the
U.S. candidacy, but acknowledged the importance of the issue
and said the GoS would give the USG request full review and
consideration.
2. (SBU) In a separate meeting on June 10, poloff delivered
the reftel demarche to Doris Frick, DCM at the Embassy of the
Principality of Liechtenstein in Bern. Frick undertook to
forward the request to Vaduz for review and consideration.
She had no comments in substance, but alerted poloff that it
is likely that the GoL will wait until shortly before the
ICSC elections before making final decisions about which
candidates it will support.
