(S) On August 12, EconOff delivered ref A non-paper to MFA
Export Control Division Deputy Office Director, Markus
Klinger, encouraging Germany to investigate a Syrian
procurement attempt for a German origin laser cutting machine
that could be useful for Syria's missile program. Klinger
said he would deliver the non-paper to the appropriate export
control authorities at the German Federal Office of Economics
and Export Control (BAFA) and report back any findings. Post
will report any substantive German response septel.
