1. (S) German export control authorities completed an
investigation into an Iranian effort to procure 1800
stainless steel valves from the German firm Mit-Weimar GmbH
and determined there are no pending deals to export the
valves to the Iranian firm Sherkat-E Sakhtemani-Ye Rahtess
(Rahtess Construction Company). German authorities verified
that the USG-supplied information in the ref B nonpaper was
correct and agree with the USG assertion that the valves
could be used in both nuclear reactor and uranium centrifuge
enrichment applications.
2. (S) On December 3, MFA Export Control Division Desk
Officer Pitra Studert-Goeller conveyed to Econoff the results
of the investigation. Goeller said German export control
authorities contacted Mit Weimar and found no evidence of a
pending export of stainless steel valves to Sherkat-E
Sakhtemani-Ye Rahtess. Goeller could not confirm whether or
not Mit Weimar was ever solicited by this company. Goeller
confirmed Mit Weimar has been sensitized to procurement
attempts by Sherkat-E Sakhtemani-Ye Rahtess and of general
Iranian interest its specialized valves.
