Serbia exceeded 100 confirmed cases of H1N1A influenza over the
weekend of July 17. Predrag Kon, chairman of the Health Ministry's
working group on pandemic response, told local media on July 18 that
a large number of infected had contracted H1N1A at the EXIT music
festival in Novi Sad earlier this month and the majority of cases had
been imported from abroad. Cases in Serbia have been registered in
Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis, Sombor, Srbobran, Nova Pazova, Sabac,
Subotica, Kucevo, Kragujevac, Pancevo and Stara Pazova. Assistant
Health Minister for Sanitary Inspection Dr. Svetlana Mijatovic told
us on July 17 that the Health Ministry would continue its efforts to
stem the spread of H1N1A by educating citizens through fliers at the
airport, TV commercials, and bulletin boards. All people who have
been in contact with infected individuals are under continuous
medical monitoring, she said.
