1. During an April 21 meeting with PolChief, MFA Acting Director
General for Multilateral Affairs Ambassador Jovan Mirilovic promised
that Serbia would give full attention and consideration to the
United States' candidacy for the UN Human Rights Council (reftel).
He indicated, however, that Serbia likely would adopt a formal
position only on the eve of the May 12 election.
2. Mirilovic said that he would pass on the diplomatic note
announcing the candidacy and the accompanying human rights pledge to
the Office of the Foreign Minister and expressed hope that it would
be possible for Serbia to support the U.S. in its efforts to
reengage with the Human Rights Council.
