Key points at the December 10 MFA press briefing were: -- Ambassador Bosworth will be arriving in Beijing December 11 following his visit to North Korea. -- At the Copenhagen Conference, China hopes the concerns of developing countries are addressed. -- Xi Jinping will visit ROK, Japan, Cambodia, and Burma December 14-22. Bosworth Trip to China Following his Visit to North Korea -------------- -------------- ¶2. At the December 10 regularly scheduled Foreign Ministry press briefing, Spokesperson Jiang Yu said U.S. Special Representative for North Korea Policy Ambassador Stephen Bosworth will arrive December 11 in Beijing and plans to meet with Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawai to exchange views on the North Korea situation. China hopes all sides will show flexibility so that dialogue and negotiations may continue, said Jiang. China also hopes these talks will ultimately lead to resumption of the Six-Party Talks. When asked if the Chinese have spoken to DPRK officials, Jiang replied she has no such information. Copenhagen Concerns -------------- ¶3. China understands the concerns of all the participants to the Copenhagen Conference, Jiang said. It is an obligation of developed countries to ensure that support is provided to all countries on climate change issues. China hopes developing countries give reasonable appeals to developed countries to enhance cooperation and coordination, she said. The goal is to enhance the roadmap of the Kyoto Protocol and "this should not be given up." Nations must have the political will for an agreement acceptable to all, said Jiang. U.S. Arms Sales to Taiwan -------------- ¶4. China is "firmly opposed" to any arms sales by the United States to Taiwan and has urged the United States to adhere to the Three Joint Communiques. Japan Delegation to China -------------- ¶5. Ichiro Ozawa, secretary-general of the ruling Democratic Party of Japan, is visiting China. The visit was organized by the National Department of the CPC and President Hu Jintao will meet with the delegation. Hu Jintao to Visit Kazakhstan -------------- ¶6. President Hu will visit Kazakhstan December 12 for a meeting with President Nursultan Nazarbayev. Both sides will exchange ideas to further promote the strategic partnership established in 2005, the spokesperson said. Xi Jinping to Visit Four Asian Countries -------------- ¶7. Vice President Xi Jinping will visit the Republic of Korea, Japan, Cambodia and Burma from December 14-22. This will be the first visit to Japan by a senior Chinese official since the establishment of Japan's new government. Xi will visit Seoul December 16-18 and meet with President Lee Myung-bak, Prime Minister Chung Un-chan, members of the ROK legislature, representatives of the economic and friendship communities and the main political parties.
