1. (C) On July 28 POLOFF conveyed to MFA International
Organizations and Conferences Department UN Division Deputy
Director Shen Bo reftel points requesting China oppose
controversial language that Libya seeks to insert into the
United Nations-African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID)
mandate. Shen told POLOFF that China respected the
sovereignty of Sudan and its people to choose a course of
action that was in its best interest. Shen had not received
current details of the Security Council's discussion on this
topic from his counterparts in New York but would discuss the
issue with them in light of our demarche.
