1. (SBU) On June 15, PolOff conveyed to MFA International
Organizations and Conferences Department UN Division Deputy
Director Shen Yinyin reftel points urging China to support a
resolution extending the UN Observer Mission in Georgia
(UNOMIG) for two weeks to allow negotiations on a revised
mandate to continue. Deputy Director Shen already had a copy
of the UN draft resolution on UNOMIG contained in reftel.
She acknowledged the imminent expiration of the current
UNOMIG mandate, but had no immediate formal response to offer
other than promising to make our interest known to senior MFA
officers.
