¶1. (SBU) We engaged Ittiporn Boonpracong, Ministry of Foreign
Affairs Deputy Director-General for the Department of
International Organizations, February 20 regarding the Durban
Review Conference Working Group Session, renewed U.S.
participation, and issues of concern (reftel). Ittiporn
stated that the RTG is fully aware of the sensitivity of the
issues involved in the drafting of the outcome document.
Ittiporn explained that the RTG supports the Durban process
in principle, but believes that the process should be
constructive, non political, and looking forward. In
general, the RTG does not support singling out any one
country. Ittiporn said that the RTG hopes that there will be
a greater attempt undertaken than previously to use more
balanced language in the outcome document.
