1. (SBU) Econoff delivered reftel talking points June 29 to Mr.
Noppadon Sarawasi, Deputy Director-General, Department of Trade
Negotiations, of the Thai Ministry of Commerce. Mr. Sarawasi will
attend the July 14 ASEAN-U.S. Senior Economic Officials Meeting
(SEOM) on behalf of the Royal Thai Government (RTG).
2. (SBU) Mr. Sarawasi stated his office would study the USG work
plan proposals (reftel) and be prepared to discuss them at the SEOM.
While Thailand does not intend to submit any TIFA work plan
proposals to the upcoming SEOM, the Ministry of Commerce is engaging
the Thai private sector to determine if the RTG should submit its
own work plan proposals in the future.
2. (SBU) Econcounselor also intends to follow-up on reftel talking
points with the Director-General of the Department of Trade
Negotiations during a scheduled July 9 meeting. Post will report
any significant updates septel.
