SUBJECT: LUGO MEETING REQUEST WITH PRESIDENT OBAMA
(U) Embassy received a dipnote from the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs requesting a meeting with President Obama on the
margins of the 5th Summit of the Americas. An unofficial
translation follows:

VMRE/DGPB/DA/No. 58/09
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Office of Bilateral
Relations, presents its compliments to the Embassy of the
United States in reference to the 5th Summit of the Americas
that will take place April 17-19 in Port of Spain, Trinidad
and Tobago.
In that regard, the President of the Republic of Paraguay Don
Fernando Lugo Mendez has expressed interest in a bilateral
meeting with the President of the United States Barack Obama
on the margins of the summit.
In that regard, the efforts of the Embassy to coordinate said
meeting would be greatly appreciated.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Office of Bilateral
Relations, avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the
Embassy of the United States the assurances of its highest
consideration.
