(U) Per reftel, Econoff met with Vice Minister of Commerce
Bruno Hug Belmont, the Certifying Authority that issues the
Certificates of Quota Edibility (CQEs),April 9 regarding the
U.S. World Trade Organization (WTO) raw sugar tariff rate
quota (TRQ) for Paraguay. Belmont said that Paraguay plans to
use and ship the full TRQ allocation of 7,258 metric tons of
raw cane sugar to the U.S. by September 30, 2009. Belmont
explained that Paraguay could supply additional raw sugar
above the TRQ amount, noting that the expected raw sugar
production for the remainder of 2009 is approximately 86,000
metric tons.
