1. (U) Sensitive but unclassified. Not for public Internet.
2. (SBU) On August 19, we followed up with Azat Matenov, Attache
with the MFA's Department of Multilateral Cooperation, on
Kazakhstan's position on the candidacy of Ms. Lucretia Myers for the
International Civil Service Commission (ICSC) (reftel A). We had
presented our original request for Kazakhstan's support to the MFA
in June (reftel B). Matenov said that the MFA has not yet made its
decision, but that Ms. Myers candidacy was "considered very
favorably." When we spoke to Mr. Matenov again on August 27, he
told us that the final decision will likely be made closer to the
time of the UN General Assembly, but reiterated that he saw "no
objections" to supporting Ms. Myers candidacy.
