1. (SBU) This is another in a series of weekly reports on PKK
violence in Turkey. Our primary source is the Turkish General Staff
(TGS) website, which documents contacts and clashes with the PKK, as
well as casualties incurred.
2. (U) During the week of June 8-15, 2009, one security official was
killed in a clash with the PKK in Hakkari Province on June 13. Five
security officials were injured, including four in an IED explosion
in Hakkari Province on June 12, and one in a clash with the PKK in
Hakkari Province on June 13. The total number of security force
casualties for the year through June 15, was 31 killed and 41
injured.
3. (U) During the same period, one PKKer was killed in a clash in
Hakkari Province on June 13. Three PKKers surrendered in Sirnak
Province on June 10. According to official TGS website figures,
through the second week of June, the number of PKK militants killed
this year was 26, the number of those captured was 25, and the
number of those who surrendered was 57.
4. (U) During the reporting period no civilian died but one was
injured due to a PKK IED that exploded Hakkari Province on June 12.
The total number of civilian casualties for the year through the end
of the second week of June was five killed and ten wounded.
