1. (SBU) This is another in a series of weekly reports on PKK
violence in Turkey. Our primary source is the Turkish General Staff
(TGS) website, which documents contacts and clashes with the PKK, as
well as casualties incurred.
2. (U) During the April 1-7, 2009, no security official was killed
but three were injured by IEDs, one on April 3 in Lice, Diyarbakir
Province, and two on April 5 in Sirnak Province. The total number
of security force casualties for the year through April 7, was zero
killed and three injured.
3. (U) During the same period, one PKK terrorist was killed in a
clash on April 5, in Semdinli, Hakkari Province and one was captured
in Sanliurfa on April 3. Six PKKers surrendered in Silopi, Sirnak
Province on April 5. According to official TGS website figures,
through the first week of April, the number of PKK militants killed
this year was two, the number of those captured was 14, and the
number of those who surrendered was 30.
4. (U) During the reporting period no civilian died or injured.
The total number of civilian casualties for the year through the end
of the first week of April, was zero killed and five wounded.
