1. (U) Sensitive but unclassified - please protect accordingly.
2. (SBU) This is another in a series of weekly reports on PKK
violence in Turkey. Our primary source is the Turkish General Staff
(TGS) website, which documents contacts and clashes with the PKK, as
well as casualties incurred.
3. (U) During the March 24-31, 2009, no security official was
injured or killed. The total number of security forces casualties
for the year through March 31, was zero killed and zero injured.
4. (U) During the same period, one PKK terrorist was captured in
Reyhanli, Hatay on March 25. Six PKKers surrendered, including
three in Yuksekova, Hakkari on March 25 and March 26, and three in
Silopi, Sirnak on March 30. According to official TGS website
figures, through the fourth week of March, the number of PKK
militants killed this year was one, the number of those captured was
13, and the number of those who surrendered was 24.
5. (U) During the reporting period no civilian died or injured.
The total number of civilian casualties for the year through the end
of the fourth week of March, was zero killed and five wounded.
