1. (S) We provided the additional information regarding
Turkish firm Ak Makina's dealings with Iran (ref a) to MFA
Deputy DG for Nonproliferation and Disarmament Ahmet Gun on
March 25. Gun expressed appreciation for the information and
pledged to share and review the information with appropriate
officials in the GOT interagency export control taskforce
that was scheduled to meet later that same day.
2. (S) Gun reiterated GOT's efforts in closely monitoring Ak
Makina (ref b). He intimated that Ak Makina, together with
Spinner Takim (ref c),were "headaches": 80 percent of
problematic export control cases come from these two
companies. He said he has received similar information from
other governments and also GOT sources and said he intended
to raise his general concerns about these companies'
activities with FM Babacan.
