(SBU) Polchief delivered on April 29 reftel demarche to the
Foreign Minister's Office Director Nabil Masarweh, requesting
that Jordan immediately recognize Kosovo and reinforcing our
desire that Jordan support Kosovo's membership bids in the
IMF and World Bank. Echoing what Emboffs have heard recently
at the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation and
the Central Bank (refs b and c),Masarweh said that Jordan
supported the bids for membership. Masarweh also echoed what
other high-level Jordanian interlocutors had told Ambassador
during the King's April visit to Washington, indicating
Jordan would recognize Kosovo in the near future but adding
that "timing was everything." Post will continue to engage
Jordan on the matter and report developments.
