(SBU) PolOff delivered on April 9, ref B points seeking
Jordanian support for the U.S. candidacy to the UN Human
Rights Council to Dr. Manal Mazahreh of the Foreign
Ministry's Human Rights Department. Mazahreh did not
indicate how Jordan would vote in the May elections, but
stated she would convey the request to relevant senior
officials. Mazahreh added that Jordan has already completed
the necessary paperwork to run for one of the five vacant
Council seats of the Asia group. Post will continue to
engage the GOJ and will report septel any substantive
response to this request or the U.S. pledge (Ref A).
