1. (U) Poloff delivered reftel demarche on September 15 to
Samer Naber, Chief of the Americas Bureau at the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs. Naber appreciated the invitation, and noted
that Jordan was currently celebrating its twentieth
anniversary of participation in UN peacekeeping operations.
(Note: Jordan first sent troops to Angola in 1989. End
Note.) Naber also highlighted Jordan's role in crafting the
July 2008 statement of the "small five" peacekeeping nations,
which calls for tangible goals for peacekeeping missions,
further accountability measures, and representation for
states which offer peacekeepers in Security Council debates.
2. (SBU) Royal Court Chief Nasser Lozi has told the
Ambassador that King Abdullah is unlikely to travel to New
York for the UN General Assembly due to scheduling conflicts.
In his absence, Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh will represent
Jordan at this event.
