1. (S) The Charge discussed ref B points with Chief of the
Royal Court Nasser Lozi and senior Court official Jaffar
Hassan on August 13. Lozi stated that GOJ was sensitized to
the issue of illicit arms shipments and supportive of USG
efforts to prevent such deliveries. Lozi told the Charge that
he had been notified of the suspected shipment immediately
upon his return from a trip with the King late in the evening
of August 12.
2. (S) Lozi also stated that more information on the possible
overflights would be helpful. Specifically he asked for more
on the following issues:
- When the overflights are expected to occur,
- How many overflights we expect there to be,
- The suspected size or volume of the shipment,
- Further information on Badr Airlines, which was previously
unknown to GOJ officials, and
- Whether the USG had approached the Syrian Government
3. (S) The Charge advised Lozi that post would request
further information from the Department and pass any
additional data to the GOJ.
