SUBJECT: JORDAN'S GOVERNMENT ON TRANSIT ARRANGEMENTS FOR
FATAH 6TH PARTY CONGRESS

REF: A. AMMAN 1521

B. STATE 71829

Classified By: Ambassador R. Stephen Beecroft
for reasons 1.4 (b) and (d).

(C) The Ambassador raised the upcoming Fatah 6th Party
Congress with Royal Court Chief Nasser Al-Lozi during a July
12 meeting. According to Lozi, the Palestinian Authority
(PA) requested that Jordan reiterate the need for coordinated
logistics and lack of political intervention with Israeli
authorities. The Jordanian government suggested to the PA
that it would like to vet the names for those who will be
transiting Jordan to ensure there are no problems at the
borders. Such a list of attendees has not yet been provided
by the PA. Poloff engaged separately with MFA Deputy
Americas Bureau Chief Samer Naber on the issue on July 14.
Naber was unaware of any efforts to coordinate the transit of
delegates, but promised to raise the issue within the MFA and
Jordanian interagency contacts.
