1. (C) On June 24, the Ambassador met with Nasser Lozi, Chief
of the Royal Court to share a copy of the President's
statement about the start of the Afghan election campaign
season. Lozi agreed that a level playing field for all
candidates was important and that impartiality on behalf of
the international community on the outcome of a
democratically-held election in Afghanistan would be
critical. Lozi said the GOJ would try to issue a helpful
statement in the same vein, but it likely would not be as
detailed or as specific as the President's statement.
2. (C) On June 22, PolChief also shared the President's
statement with Ambassador Bisher al-Khasawneh, Director of
Foreign Minister Nasser Lozi's private office. Khasawneh
noted that the President's remarks would be welcome in the
region. Unable to commit on the issue of a public statement,
Khasawneh promised to follow up on the issue.
