SUBJECT: AMMAN'S RESPONSE TO REQUEST FOR INFORMATION
REGARDING THERMAL IMAGING USE FOR THE H1N1 OUTBREAK

REF: STATE 45269

Post gathered the following information from Dr. Mohammed
Almonsh of the Ministry of Health at the Queen Alia
International Airport (QAIA):

Jordan currently does not use thermal imaging devices.
However, the Ministry of Health has ordered this equipment,
with a planned delivery in two to three weeks. The make and
model was not available.

The current plan for implementation is that the thermal
imaging devices will be used only at QAIA on all arriving
passengers from North AMERICA with a temperature cut-off of
100.5 degrees. Those passengers who register this
temperature, or above, will be taken to the airport health
clinic. Throat cultures will be performed and processed
through rapid lab tests for influenza results. Those with
positive results will be transported via ambulance to the
Hanza Hospital in Amman for further testing for H1N1.
